Namibian filmmaker Othilia Mungoba’s latest documentary ‘Beyond the Goalpost’ is set for its first public screening at the Goethe-Institut Namibia on 20 May at 18h00.
The screening is part of the Cinemaverse Film Series and follows a private premiere held at the Football House at Katutura. Entry is free, with complimentary popcorn available to attendees.
The sport documentary offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look into the world of women’s football in Namibia through the lens of Arrows Ladies Football Club.
Mungoba spent several months following the team, capturing the highs and lows of their season. The film spotlights the personal and professional lives of the players, their coach, and team manager, while exposing the structural and social challenges faced by female athletes in the country.
“’Beyond the Goalpost’ is a tribute to resilience, ambition, and the unspoken sacrifices made by women pushing boundaries in the world of football,” says Mungoba.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director and members of Arrows Ladies, creating space for conversations around gender equity, institutional support, and the power of storytelling in sport.
With over two decades in media, Mungoba continues to redefine documentary filmmaking with stories that reflect real Namibian experiences.
She is also the co-founder of the Namibian chapter of Sisters Working in Film and Television, an initiative to promote gender equ
ality in the industry.
