ACCESS to Kippies nightclub in the south of Windhoek was blocked by waist-high river on Friday.
But that didn’t stop Mario and his friends deciding: “It might be raining out there but we’re going to have our dop and enjoy the party”. “The only way to get to Kippies was with a four by four, or by swimming there,” said Mario.”There was a guy in his Land Rover doing mud-slides and transporting people to and from Kippies. Then one of the girls I was with took her pants off and swam over in her g-string”.Mario and friends also decided to swim for their beers.”There was a perfect party mood.Everyone with muddy feet and rolled up pants was dancing and chatting and laughing,” said Kippies’ barman Thys van der Merwe.”The odd person complained about their new shoes, but eventually they also took off their shoes and joined the party”.”We had to keep the door blocked with a table to prevent more water from running in”.But despite the water that started flowing into the bar at half a metre above the stairs, about 100 people partied there on Friday, said Van der Merwe. He added: “After Wednesday’s rains, we spent a lot of time cleaning up for Friday’s do.Then, after Friday, we were again left with a muddy disaster.Let’s just hope we won’t have to clean up a third time”.”The only way to get to Kippies was with a four by four, or by swimming there,” said Mario. “There was a guy in his Land Rover doing mud-slides and transporting people to and from Kippies.
