Need To Engage Public Opinion

I WOULD just like to say that the politicians and MPs should engage public opinion before making decisions in Parliament.

For example, on the Nujoma title issue, there is a genuine opposition to the idea among the opposition parties. The painful thing is that the ruling party, instead of coming with a valid and genuine counter-opinion, will simply resort to using its two-thirds majority vote, which they know is a given.Sad to think that some Swapo MPs will just follow suit, even if they disagree with their comrades. It’s at times like this that the former President should go public by announcing, for example, that he wouldn’t want such a bill be passed in his honour.Too many honours have been bestowed on him, surely he should say enough is enough. One would have expected, for example, with the Katutura stadium name, the former President telling the municipality: “No guys, not this time. The stadium belongs to the people, and it should stay named as Katutura Stadium”.My plea therefore to the former President is to now and again come out in public and say: “I don’t think you should give such an honour or rename it to my name…”And perhaps the politicians will find it easier to make the right decisions. Not Happy, Via e-mailThe painful thing is that the ruling party, instead of coming with a valid and genuine counter-opinion, will simply resort to using its two-thirds majority vote, which they know is a given.Sad to think that some Swapo MPs will just follow suit, even if they disagree with their comrades. Not Happy, Via e-mail
