Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup football matches moved to Field B

The U20 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup organising committee has confirmed that all football matches initially scheduled for Field A at Keetmanshoop’s Westdene Stadium have been moved to Field B due to a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rainfall on Friday, the opening day of the tournament, left Field A unplayable, forcing organisers to make a quick decision to ensure the continuation of the competition.

A total of eight matches are scheduled for Saturday as the group stages conclude, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

Speaking to the media, Namibia Football Association vice president Mars Markus on Saturday explained the decision.

“The organising committee of the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup has decided to move all matches from Field A to Field B due to the waterlogged pitch caused by the heavy rain on Friday.”

He added that efforts are underway to restore the pitch.
“Our team is currently working on Field A to make it playable again. Once it is ready, matches will return to Field A, as originally planned.”

For now, all fixtures will proceed on Field B until further notice.

Saturday’s fixtures:
• Hardap vs Omaheke – 10h00
• Kavango East vs Otjozondjupa – 11h30
• Kavango West vs Oshikoto – 13h00
• Ohangwena vs ||Kharas – 14h30
• Khomas vs Erongo – 16h00
• Zambezi vs Kunene – 17h30
