This weekend’s Nedbank Cycle Challenge has been indefinitely postponed following the death of president Hage Geingob, the organisers said.
Known as the “greatest ride under the sun”, the Nedbank Cycle Challenge was due to take place in Windhoek on Sunday (11 February).
This year’s edition will feature a new paraplegic category and a kiddies race.
A new date for the 38th edition of the race is yet to be determined.
“We are engaging the national cycling authorities for an appropriate alternative date for this event. We appreciate that our entire nation find ourselves in deep mourning, following the sudden passing of his excellency president Hage Geingob,” Nedbank Namibia said in a statement.
Entries into the Nedbank Cycle Challenge remain open. Cyclists can enter by visiting www.nedbankcyclechallenge.com
