Nearly N$400 000 feared stolen in city heist

A SECURITY company employee was arrested in Windhoek yesterday after a cash-in-transit vehicle he was driving was reported stolen from a shopping centre in the city.

The vehicle, belonging to Mint-Master Security (Namibia), was reported to have been stolen from the Maerua Mall shopping centre at about 10h44 yesterday, the Unit Commander of the Police Serious Crime Unit in Windhoek, Detective Chief Inspector Nelius Becker, said late yesterday. The vehicle was found about 30 minutes later in Otjomuise in the western part of the city, according to the detective.It is suspected that between N$300 000 and N$400 000 had been stolen from it.Becker said that the driver of the vehicle was claiming that the cash-in-transit truck was stolen while he was away from it.He was arrested yesterday.Police investigations continue.The vehicle was found about 30 minutes later in Otjomuise in the western part of the city, according to the detective.It is suspected that between N$300 000 and N$400 000 had been stolen from it.Becker said that the driver of the vehicle was claiming that the cash-in-transit truck was stolen while he was away from it.He was arrested yesterday.Police investigations continue.
