The National Democratic Party (NDP) has recalled local authority councillor Watson Kalaluka from the Katima Mulilo Town Council with immediate effect after he was found guilty of multiple charges of misconduct.
Kalaluka has represented the NDP in the Katima Mulilo Town Council since 2020.
NDP secretary general Alex Linyando told The Namibian that Kalaluka was found guilty for failing to pay his 30% monthly contribution to the party and for allegedly falsely accusing party president Martin Lukato of demanding the contribution be paid to him directly.
The disciplinary committee recommended that Kalaluka be removed, said Linyando.
Kalaluka has also been accused of failing to submit monthly reports, failing to implement party programmes as per the NDP manifesto and failing to provide feedback on matters discussed or resolutions taken in council meetings.
“Basically, he failed to grow the party because during his tenure the party has lost massive support and trust among its supporters.
“He once went on air to advocate the closure of water supply to the poor masses without consulting the party leadership.
“On two separate occasions in 2021 and 2022, he teamed up with Swapo councillors to remove street vendors without any mandate from party members. He continues to fail to show respect for the party’s leadership,” Linyando said.
According to Linyando, Kalaluka was served with a charge sheet by the disciplinary committee, however, he has failed to respond to the allegations levelled against him.
These allegations indicate that Kalaluka is undermining the powers vested in the investigating committee, as well as the party he is serving, said Linyando.
“The party has decided to replace him with Simasiku Mukendwa with immediate effect,” he said.
Kalaluka refused to comment on the matter, saying that he has no knowledge of the allegations laid against him and much less of being recalled from representing the party in the council.
