Ndoroma calls for discipline

NAMIBIAN boxers were asked to refrain from unethical behaviour as it bring disgrace to many individuals and especially the companies that are involved in sport.

This message was given by Telecom Namibia managing director, Frans Ndoroma when he spoke at the announcement of a N$150 000 sponsorship meant for the annual Box ‘n Dine event billed for August 18 in Windhoek. He said boxers must behave as good sportsmen and women in around the ring and regard decisions of the referee and judges as final.Ndoroma, whose company is currently the biggest financial contributor to boxing apart from Government, was reacting to an incident in which one of the boxers was dissatisfied with the outcome of a fight in Swakopmund, going to an extend of grabbing the belt from officials who were doing the presentation.The boxer in question was Petrus Kapia, who was given an eight-month suspension for that incident by the Namibia Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (NBWCB) last week Friday.Kapia was defeated by Siegfried Kaperu in a national featerweight title.Ndoroma said Telecom expects a high level of sportsmanship from the ones they (Telecom Namibia) associate with.He said the Telecom Box ‘n Dine event is being organised as a mark of respect to the countryŽs young boxers keen spirit in scaling sporting heights.” It also speaks of Telecom NamibiaŽs commitment in promoting and developing our youths through sports.Recognising that sports provide fertile space to build physical and mental strength, Telecom Namibia wants to ensure that our investment engage active young minds and nurture sporting talents,” he said.He promised that sport will continue to feature prominently in their engagements with the communities in pursuit of excellence.”It is out hope that more Namibian boxers, both amateur and professionals will in the near future punch their way into the continental and world stage to achieve phenomenal success through a chilling demonstration of boxing supremacy,” he said.He said Telecom calls upon the boxers to challenge themselves to go beyond their limits, Žnot on outperforming others, but on outdoing themselves both inside and outside the ring.Ž Deputy Minister of Sport Pohamba Shifeta also urged to professional boxers to maintain a high level of discipline as there are a lot of aspiring boxers who are looking up to them.Besides that, he thanked Telecom Namibia for their unwavering support to the sport of boxing and complementing the efforts of government.Boxing promoter and trainer, Nestor Tobias, who was instrumental in initiating the event four years ago with Telecom, said he was convinced that the boxers on the night will once again put up a great show.He said he was thankful to Telecom Namibia for once again showing their commitment to the development of boxing in the country, saying that their willingness in doing this has opened many doors for the local boxers.He said some of the boxers have now achieved heights that they could only dream of, but at the same time, urged the boxers to be focused, disciplined and work hard to achieve their goals.The Box ‘n Dine event will feature several professional under cards, but the main bout will be between NamibiaŽs World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African Junior welterweight champion, Jason ‘Taks’ Naule and South Africa’s
