NDF to deploy helicopters to fight Etosha fire

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs will dispatch two helicopters on Sunday to help kill the fire currently raging in Etosha National park.

This was announced by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) on Saturday evening.

Following the fire burning since Monday, the secretary to the Cabinet, Emilia Mkusa, convened an emergency meeting to discuss the matter on Saturday.

The dispatching of the helicopters is a result of this meeting.

In the meantime, an additional 49 soldiers have been deployed to the park, and 500 soldiers will arrive Sunday.

Furthermore, the neighbouring regions and other OMAs are also mobilising resources to reinforce ongoing efforts to extinguish the fire.

Prime minister Elijah Nguare has commended the secretary to the Cabinet and the team with special thanks to the defence ministry.

“As a country, when there is teamwork, there is no challenge we cannot overcome,” he said on Saturday.
