NCCI happy with FILDA

THE Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) yesterday expressed satisfaction with the outcome of its involvement in the International Fair of Luanda (FILDA) trade fair, held recently the Angolan capital.

The organisation led a 25-member delegation which comprised of local businesses ranging from the meat industry, tourism industry to transport and manufacturing. The delegation mainly focussed on attracting international businesses and exhibitors to the Namibian stand that was showcasing local products and services, and allow it to especially market Namibian meat and tourism.According to NCCI operations manager, Charity Mwiya, who headed the first delegation, the major highlight of Namibia’s participation at the fair was that local businesses benefited from extensive exposure, especially through the hosting of Namibia Day at the same fair on July 15.The event saw Namibia’s Ambassador to Angola, Lineekela Mboti, deliver a special address in support of the private sector.Mwiya said those invited to attend Namibia Day had a chance to sample Namibian meat and other products and services that were on offer, exposing the local business fraternity to potential markets. She said through their trade enquiries book which had been displayed at the stand, feedback had been good, with some Angolan businesses offering to visit Namibia to follow-up after FILDA and explore the market for business ventures.Mwiya also said a major feature of the Namibian business community’s presence at FILDA was the strategic selection of some businesses from the Small to Medium Enterprises sector, especially from the manufacturing industry, to participate in an attempt find additional ways of improving their business prospects.Mwiya emphasised that although some local companies have been in business in Angola for a number of years, more could still be done with more local companies taking advantage of business climate and opportunities in the neighbouring country.FILDA is the second largest international trade exhibition in Southern Africa after SIATEX in Johannesburg, South Africa. It offers international businesses the opportunity to display their products or services with the purpose of stimulating economic prosperity and promoting the commercial exchanges, know-how and joint ventures.Exhibiting also at the fair were South Africa, Portugal,Zimbabwe, Ghana, Brazil, Australia, Spain among others. The Ministry of Trade and Industry has been credited for having been a supportive partner in organising of participation of locals at FILDA.Angola has been the focus of the NCCI’s primary markets for trade and investment promotion in its calendar of activities for this year.
