THE Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has enlisted the help of French television group Canal France International (CFI) in improving its public image.
During the next two weeks, NBC staff will be discussing the perceptions the public and sponsors have of the struggling broadcaster, while also brainstorming on how to change these perceptions where necessary. NBC Board Chairman Ponhele Ya France yesterday said that he hoped the workshop would lay the necessary groundwork for the station to improve its image and standing in the broadcasting industry.”When this exercise is concluded, NBC must put plans in place so our mediums can be seen to teach and not bore.It should illuminate and not obscure.Let it inspire and not deaden,” Ya France told staff during the opening of the workshop at the NBC’s headquarters in Windhoek. Two consultants from the French television station France 5 will be facilitating the workshop. They are Laurent Visbecq and Cecile Chavepayre, and after their interaction with the NBC staff, the two will be required to make recommendations that will allow the parastatal to implement its new design and a new communication strategy.Ya France said that the French Ministry of Foreign Cooperation had previously provided technical assistance to the NBC, with many employees receiving training either locally or in France.”The NBC highly appreciates this partnership and would like to continue growing for the good of the nation,” he said.Departments that will receive attention during the process include News and Current Affairs, Human Resources, the Radio and Television Services, Technical Services, and Finance and Marketing.NBC Director General Bob Kandetu said he believed the exercise was important if the broadcaster was serious about becoming competitive in an ever-growing global environment.France 5 is a public television network in France, featuring particularly educational programming, documentaries and discussion programmes.NBC Board Chairman Ponhele Ya France yesterday said that he hoped the workshop would lay the necessary groundwork for the station to improve its image and standing in the broadcasting industry.”When this exercise is concluded, NBC must put plans in place so our mediums can be seen to teach and not bore.It should illuminate and not obscure.Let it inspire and not deaden,” Ya France told staff during the opening of the workshop at the NBC’s headquarters in Windhoek. Two consultants from the French television station France 5 will be facilitating the workshop. They are Laurent Visbecq and Cecile Chavepayre, and after their interaction with the NBC staff, the two will be required to make recommendations that will allow the parastatal to implement its new design and a new communication strategy.Ya France said that the French Ministry of Foreign Cooperation had previously provided technical assistance to the NBC, with many employees receiving training either locally or in France.”The NBC highly appreciates this partnership and would like to continue growing for the good of the nation,” he said.Departments that will receive attention during the process include News and Current Affairs, Human Resources, the Radio and Television Services, Technical Services, and Finance and Marketing.
