NBC Must Up Local Content

NBC Must Up Local Content

OBSERVING the influence caused by compromised international investment on our nation is a matter of concern to me.

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation is one of those examples. I have noted that the NBC is broadcasting CCN, DWTV, CCTV for almost more than 50% of its broadcasting time.Note that visual and printed media also shape your nation.Globalisation has its pros and cons and therefore it is my view that more African programmes should be broadcast by the national broadcaster. An ordinary viewer who does not have access to DStv is not exposed to general news in Africa apart from breaking news events, although we are exposed to how the Chinese and the Germans are living.I think that is unfair. My appeal goes out the DG of NBC to ensure that at least 60% of the programmes broadcast on our NBC should from Africa, I mean the “AFRICAN VERSION”.I believe we do have qualified producers and in addition if we can afford foreign programmes, we ought to be able to afford African programmes.Foreigners know our own country and even Africa better than we do just because some hot shots who are driving us can afford to travel Africa.I have to congratulate the producers of Southern Skies – well done. Now I know more about my country just because of your programme. Please NBC, follow suit.Realist Via e-mail Note: Name and address provided – EdI have noted that the NBC is broadcasting CCN, DWTV, CCTV for almost more than 50% of its broadcasting time.Note that visual and printed media also shape your nation.Globalisation has its pros and cons and therefore it is my view that more African programmes should be broadcast by the national broadcaster. Please NBC, follow suit.Realist Via e-mail Note: Name and address provided – Ed
