Property Group Save Namibia, a property company run by Michael Amushelelo and Gregory Cloete, has cut ties with its consultant, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma.
An email, which has been verified by Desert Radio, suggests that Nauyoma is breaking away due to his political commitment to presidential candidate Ally Angula’s campaign.
Both Amushelelo and Cloete are commissars of the Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF).
Property Group Save Namibia’s email reads: “Dear members, please be informed of the following changes in our structure. One of our consultants, Mr Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, will no longer be part of our team as he has taken up a political position that occupies his time on a full-time basis, and has been relieved of all his duties and responsibilities.
“We wish him well on his journey.”
Nauyoma last week confirmed that he is indeed not rolling with Amushelelo and Cloete on the business front.
He said his departure from the venture is in the best interests of the project in light of his political aspirations.
“Because once you have a lot of political influence people tend to focus on the political aspect rather than the project. There is no bad blood between us,” Nauyoma said.
Cloete corroborated this statement.
“He has decided to fully engage in his political career in terms of assisting Ms Angula in becoming the president.
“For that reason, his schedule puts him in a position where he has to travel across the country and beyond. As such he made a choice of relieving himself of this job for now,” he said.
Cloete said the decision to leave was not propelled by the management of Property Group Save Namibia, but was a personal one.
“If anything, we are mature enough to understand the political ambitions of each and every individual. Moving beyond being business partners, we have also been friends.
“So, if one is okay with whatever political party or individual they want to associate themselves with, we are comfortable enough to accept that,” he said.
“One has to understand that the song these days is that people want a woman president, and I understand the amount of work and effort he has to put in to make sure they make it to State House.
“Obviously, it will be a difficult space to move in,” Cloete said.
He said Nauyoma has made it clear that he understands the nature of the housing project and its magnitude, but has declared that he has other ambitions, which the company has accepted.
“It is definitely a blow, losing an individual like Dimbulukeni, but we have learnt so much from him, and we will engage with him should we seek his advice on certain issues.
“He has indicated he is more than happy to give a smooth transition to whoever we decide to put in that position,” Cloete said.
Property Group Save Namibia describes itself as having an unconventional approach to providing low-income groups in Namibia with affordable housing.
