Nanso elects new national executive committee for next 2 years

THE Namibia National Students’ Organisation (Nanso) has elected a new national executive committee (NEC), and has chosen Timotheus Angala as its president for the next two years.

Nanso held its national congress in Windhoek this past weekend, where Nanso delegates from all 13 regions developed a new strategy and reviewed and adopted amendments to the student organisation’s constitution.Newly elected secretary general Sharonice Busch said the congress had been a resounding success and all of the objectives had been met.The Nanso NEC will serve for a period of two years.Timotheus Angala was elected as president of Nanso and Wilhelm Wilhelm was elected deputy president. Kavetu Stanley was elected as deputy secretary general and Lydia Jason was chosen as the Nanso secretary for finance. Owne Matengu was elected as Nanso secretary for information, with Hilka Amadhila as secretary for gender and social welfare. The education secretary post was filled by Emilia Uupindi, and Trives Ndjiva was elected as vice secretary for tertiary and vocational education. Herman Rutz was chosen as vice secretary for secondary and basic education.Desiderius Amutenya was elected as secretary for political affairs and Christiana Gure was chosen as secretary for sport and culture. Calvin Nghilundilwa and Helao Ndjaba were elected as additional members to the NEC.Busch said the issues confronting students across Namibia had changed since Nanso’s establishment and there was a need to revise the organisation’s constitutionNanso founding vice president Mac Hengari spoke at the closing ceremony yesterday and warned the new leaders that hard work lay ahead. Hengari cautioned the new Nanso leaders against internal divisions, tribalism and regionalism, saying that this would hamper the advancement of the student agenda.
