President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says she will not betray the trust bestowed upon her by the youth who voted for her by ensuring their issues are addressed.
She was speaking on Thursday in the Tobias Hainyeko constituency at the ‘Youth in Conversation with the President’ event.
“I must really thank the youth who made it possible for me to be elected. The youth carried me all the way from 2022 till the 2024 presidential elections and you continue to give me support,” she said.
The president asserted that she is ready to bring change and urged the youth to vote wisely in the regional council and local authority elections.
She said out of the youth engagements across all 14 regions, the Swapo Party’s manifesto was born.
“We looked at all these youth in conversation recordings in all regions, and came to a conclusion that this is what the youth wants, hence the manifesto was developed,” she said.
She urged the youth to familiarise themselves with Vision 2030 and the promises made by the eighth administration to ensure they hold leaders accountable.
She cautioned that if Namibians and particularly the youth do not ensure Vision 2030 is attained then the future could bring challenges.
“We are here to serve you and to be held accountable by you, so give me people who will work with me and make my job easy,” she said.
She emphasised that solving the issues faced by young people requires a collective effort.
She said initiatives such as the National Youth Development Fund which is assisting over 40 youth projects in the regions is among many initiatives the government has implemented to address unemployment.
She added that the Swapo manifesto is youth-oriented and speaks to the needs of young people.
