Nandi-Ndaitwah to participate in 80th UN General Assembly

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will depart for New York on Friday to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The high-level session will take place from 23 to 29 September under the theme ‘Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights’.

This was announced by the Presidency on Thursday.

“Nandi-Ndaitwah will lead the Namibian delegation to the 80th UNGA high-level week, from 20 to 26 September, ” reads the statement.

The president is expected to deliver her maiden statement before the General Assembly on 24 September.

The president will also participate in a series of high-level engagements regarding women’s empowerment, sustainable development, climate action, global economic reform, youth, peace and security and nuclear disarmament.

In addition to these multilateral engagements, Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to hold bilateral meetings with fellow heads of state and governments, as well as attend cultural and business promotion events to showcase Namibia as a destination for trade, investment and tourism.

Key among these is the flagship ‘Experience Namibia in New York’ showcase hosted by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board.
It will include a round table with global business leaders in partnership with the Business Council for International Understanding.

Furthermore, on 25 September, Nandi-Ndaitwah will undertake a working visit to Philadelphia to engage the business community and academia, and to further consolidate relations between Namibia and the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware).

She is expected to return on 26 September.
