President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will leave for Antananarivo, Madagascar, on Saturday to participate in the 45th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The president will deliver her maiden address as head of state at the summit, which State House has described as a reaffirmation of Namibia’s commitment to the ideals of regional integration, industrialisation, peace, and sustainable and inclusive development.
“President Nandi-Ndaitwah will underscore Namibia’s continuous readiness to work with fellow member states to advance transformative solutions,” the Presidency says.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, alongside other leaders, is further set to deliberate on accelerating regional integration through the modernisation of agriculture, strengthening industrial capacity and regional value chains as well as promoting an inclusive energy transition.
The summit will take place on Sunday under the theme ‘Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC’.
The summit will also review progress on the implementation of the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030.
At the same event, the SADC chairmanship will be handed over to Madagascar since Zimbabwe took over in August last year.
