President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for greater investment in Africa’s water sector, saying political commitments must translate into bankable projects and tangible results.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made the call on Tuesday in New York while co-chairing the international high-level panel on water investments for Africa and global cooperation ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.
“We must, therefore, translate political commitment into valuable projects and tangible results,” she said.
The panel’s progress report for 2021–2026, presented by former Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete, shows that the continental water investment programme has made an estimated US$10 billion to US$12 billion in annual water investment pipelines available.
The target is to make an additional US$30 billion available annually by 2030.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia is ready to attract investment into water infrastructure, including purification, aquifer recharge, raw-water distribution and desalination under the Sixth National Development Plan.
She also highlighted Namibia’s role in global water cooperation through the Global Water Partnership Organisation Secretariat in Windhoek.
