Nandi-Ndaitwah calls for fairness in distribution of drought-relief food

Swapo vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah urges those distributing drought-relief food to do so with honesty and fairness.

She says crops this year have failed due to unfriendly weather conditions.

Nandi-Ndaitwah was speaking at a Swapo rally at Rundu on Saturday.

She said many households would need food assistance, and people should demonstrate true solidarity to survive.

“Those who will have the responsibility to distribute food must do so with honesty, fairness and in the best interests of all,” she said.

She urged Swapo members who are employed as government officials to put people’s well-being first.

The Namibian last month reported that some political and community leaders across the country fear a catastrophic drought due to insufficient rainfall this year.

At the time Epupa constituency councillor Kuuoko Tjimutambo said 10 000 residents at his constituency were in need of food.

Meanwhile, Okalongo constituency councillor Laurentius Iipinge said 15 cases of malnutrition have been reported in the Omusati region.

Nearly two weeks ago Etayi constituency councillor Hans Haikali said he spent his annual entertainment allowance of N$10 000 on feeding some of the hungry residents of his constituency.
