Nam’s Pimped Out Rides

Do you remember ‘Pimp My Ride’ on MTV? How those cars had you wishing Xzibit would show up to your doorstep whisking away your “skoro-skoro” and transforming it into your own personlised pimp mobile?

It’s a dream for many car enthusiasts to customise their rides and put their own stamp on what may sometimes be just an ordinary vehicle. Turning these dreams into reality is on many occasions easier said than done, since most of us probably won’t be getting a visit from MTV soon.

Closer to home, though, Ricky’s Custom Car Show, which took place last Saturday, displayed some of the country’s customised rides and one could clearly see the time and money that went into these projects.

One of the motor-heads Godwin Plaath, showing off his customised, golden VW Beetle, said it took him between eight and nine years and thousands and thousands of dollars to get his car to where it is. I think it’s safe to say his hard work clearly paid off.

The car show was also a hit with the public. Grantham Sawyer, who attended the show, said he enjoyed it but would have liked to see even a greater variety of cars. “It was also good to see someone give back to the community,” he added.

The person who benefitted most from ‘giving back to the community’ is Ewaldt Bisschoff. Bisschoff was the lucky winner of the raffle draw, landing him in the driver’s seat of the fully customised E30 BMW and he was stunned into a state of silence after the announcement, made by Dillish Mathews.
