Namprint wins tender to print ballot papers

WINDHOEK – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has awarded the tender for the printing of over a million ballot papers for next month’s elections to Namprint.

Director of Elections Phillemon Kanime told Nampa that: “We decided to … award the printing job to Namprint because they are experts in the field, as they printed the ballot papers for the 1999 general elections and other by-elections that took place in the country in the past few years.” Kanime was satisfied that the ECN followed proper procedures in awarding the tender.The Commission has inspected Namprint’s facilities to ensure that it can do the job properly, he said.The requirements include security arrangements and the logistics to deliver the ballots to the polling stations.Namprint, formerly known as Namib Graphics, is closely linked to Swapo.The presidential and general elections will take place on November 15 and 16, and the Regional Council elections on November 29 and 30.Over 800 000 Namibians have registered as voters.Nine political parties will contest the elections.Kanime was satisfied that the ECN followed proper procedures in awarding the tender.The Commission has inspected Namprint’s facilities to ensure that it can do the job properly, he said.The requirements include security arrangements and the logistics to deliver the ballots to the polling stations.Namprint, formerly known as Namib Graphics, is closely linked to Swapo.The presidential and general elections will take place on November 15 and 16, and the Regional Council elections on November 29 and 30.Over 800 000 Namibians have registered as voters.Nine political parties will contest the elections.
