The Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) has constructed new classrooms to strengthen learning at Didimika Private School at Rundu in the Kavango East region for about N$340 000.
The school was formerly known as Veronika Thikusho Primary School.
The classrooms were handed over on Thursday. The school accommodates 120 pupils, ranging from pre-primary to Grade 3, and has seven employees.
NamPower senior district supervisor for Kavango East and West Venesius Kamupo emphasises that pupils’ safety, a conducive environment and adequate infrastructure form the backbone of meaningful education.
These conditions, he notes, improve attendance, enhance academic performance and create spaces where children can truly flourish.
“With the new classrooms now complete, both teachers and pupils are relieved from the challenges of overcrowded learning spaces. The handover not only improves safety and comfort, but restores dignity to the school community as is central to its mission of uplifting communities through sustainable development initiatives,” Kamupo says.
NamPower, through its foundation, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting quality education and strengthening learning environments across Namibia.
Kamupo highlights that this investment extends far beyond brick and mortar.
“It is a contribution to quality education, to the future of the Kavango regions and to the country’s broader socio-economic advancement,” Kamupo emphasises.
The company pledged to continue supporting government efforts to improve school infrastructure for as long as resources allow.
Former minister of works and transport John Mutorwa stresses that education is a shared responsibility between the government, teachers, parents and pupils as all play a role.
“Education can only be achieved with active participation of local community, public enterprises, private enterprises and international and foreign agencies committed to promoting African development,” Mutorwa says.
