NamPower constructs fences at four rural Zambezi schools

Nampower has built fences valued at over N$2,5 million at four rural schools in the Zambezi region.

The beneficiaries are Kanono Combined School, Mutikitila Primary School, Mukorufu Primary School and Samdono Primary School.

A combined official inauguration and handover of the school fences was held at Kanono Combined School on Friday.

Speaking during the handover, NamPower’s senior manager for human capital Simeon Amunkete said the safety of pupils in conducive facilities and infrastructure is the pathway for a good schooling experience to encourage better school attendance.

“We were informed that the staff and school boards wanted to restore the schools to promote learners and staff safety by improving the environment to be even more enabling, thus contributing to a sound educational environment for the learners. We, as NamPower, resolved to be part of this positive initiative that will advance the aspirations of the school, as we believe in the importance of education,” he said.

Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu expressed gratitude for the donation, saying pupils and teachers safety will no longer be challenged due to a lack of fencing.

He said at Kanono Combined School, a lack of proper fencing often resulted in pupils being forced to leave class to chase goats and cattle away from the school premises, disturbing their focus.

“It is with honour and humility that we accept this donation. Be assured that we will surely take good care of these fences in order for our school property to remain safe and secure. I would also like to urge the communities surrounding our schools not to allow any means or cause of vandalism that will in the end destroy the beauty of what NamPower has given us,” he said.
