NamPost workers held over alleged pension swindle

TWO NamPost employees were arrested at Outjo last week for allegedly pocketing pension payouts to a deceased pensioner.

The Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Paulus Noa, said yesterday that Christiana van der Westhuizen (44) and Dimo Richi Gui-Dao-Oab (25) were arrested on Friday on charges of contravening the ACC Act. Van der Westhuizen, who is the acting postmaster at the Outjo post office, and Gui-Dao-Oab are alleged to have pocketed the pension of deceased pensioner Maria Laubscher for the last four years.According to Noa, Laubscher used to receive her pension through the Outjo post office.After she died in September 2003, the money continued to be sent to the post office.The two accused allegedly pocketed the money, totalling N$7 850.They appeared in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on the same day they were arrested and were released on bail of N$2 000 each.The case was postponed until November 12.Van der Westhuizen, who is the acting postmaster at the Outjo post office, and Gui-Dao-Oab are alleged to have pocketed the pension of deceased pensioner Maria Laubscher for the last four years.According to Noa, Laubscher used to receive her pension through the Outjo post office.After she died in September 2003, the money continued to be sent to the post office.The two accused allegedly pocketed the money, totalling N$7 850.They appeared in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on the same day they were arrested and were released on bail of N$2 000 each.The case was postponed until November 12.
