Namibia’s top female runner, Hilaria to compete in Scotland

NAMIBIA’S top female long-distance runner Hilaria Johannes will compete in a 10-km road race in Scotland on Sunday.

Johannes was invited by Universal Sports, a Russian company, to run in the 2006 Britannic Asset Management Women’s 10-km road race in Glasgow. The 26-year-old Johannes was requested to take part in the race because of her good form of late, having won the 2006 Two Oceans 21-km race in South Africa in April and her victory in the 10-km women’s race of the Nedbank Johannesburg City Marathon in South Africa on May 6.She was in fact reported as coming second in that race, which was not the case.Johannes was also the best performer in the 1500m event for women in the 2006 AAF Grand Prix meeting. She will be running in the colours of her South African-based club Harmony together with South African runner Poppy Mlambo, who also received an invitation.Johannes’s local coach, Erwin Naimhwaka, says he is confident that she will do well given her form lately, but he is concerned about the weather conditions in Glasgow.-NampaThe 26-year-old Johannes was requested to take part in the race because of her good form of late, having won the 2006 Two Oceans 21-km race in South Africa in April and her victory in the 10-km women’s race of the Nedbank Johannesburg City Marathon in South Africa on May 6.She was in fact reported as coming second in that race, which was not the case.Johannes was also the best performer in the 1500m event for women in the 2006 AAF Grand Prix meeting. She will be running in the colours of her South African-based club Harmony together with South African runner Poppy Mlambo, who also received an invitation.Johannes’s local coach, Erwin Naimhwaka, says he is confident that she will do well given her form lately, but he is concerned about the weather conditions in Glasgow.-Nampa
