Namibian woman arrested for aiding fugitive

AN employee of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment on Tuesday made a brief appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court for allegedly having assisted a foreign national to illegally cross the border into South Africa from Namibia.

Twenty-eight-year-old Paulina Gowases, who is based in Windhoek, allegedly drove her Ugandan boyfriend, Opockh Sivvi Mancor, to a desolated location near the Klein Manasse border post in the South. Mancor managed to shake off the Namibian immigration officials who were following him and crossed into South Africa.But, according to Nampol Deputy Commissioner in Karas, Josephat Abel, the South African Police arrested Mancor.Abel said Mancor was on the run from the Police after he had managed on several occasions to escape from lawful custody in South Africa and Namibia.Abel added that Mancor had married several women in Namibia as well as in South Africa to obtain foreign citizenship.Gowases was released on bail of N$500 and the case was postponed until next year.Mancor managed to shake off the Namibian immigration officials who were following him and crossed into South Africa.But, according to Nampol Deputy Commissioner in Karas, Josephat Abel, the South African Police arrested Mancor.Abel said Mancor was on the run from the Police after he had managed on several occasions to escape from lawful custody in South Africa and Namibia.Abel added that Mancor had married several women in Namibia as well as in South Africa to obtain foreign citizenship.Gowases was released on bail of N$500 and the case was postponed until next year.
