Namibian passport moves up in global ranking

The Namibian passport has been ranked 60th globally in the 2026 Henley & Partners Passport Index, granting holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 75 destinations.

The index ranks passports based on the number of destinations holders can access without a visa.

Namibia’s 2026 ranking is an improvement for the country’s passport, which was ranked 62nd in 2025.

The Namibian passport has outranked those of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Angola, which are ranked 69th, 72nd and 84th, respectively.

However, South African and Botswana passports outrank the Namibian passport, as they are ranked 46th and 55th, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 100 and 82 destinations, respectively.

The best African passport remains that of Seychelles, which holds 22nd place globally, offering visa-free access to 154 destinations.

Globally, Singapore leads the index, allowing entry to 192 destinations without a prior visa.

It is followed closely by Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, each with access to 187 countries.

At the bottom of the rankings, Afghanistan holds the weakest passport in the world, coming in at 101st with access to only 24 countries.

Syria (100th) and Iraq (99th) follow closely with visa-free scores of 26 and 29, respectively.

The Henley Passport Index is widely regarded as a benchmark for global mobility, based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association.
