Namibian duo shines in SA off-road debut

The CR 6 – ready to conquer

Ruan Viviers and Cecil Koorts of Cema Racing are no strangers to the Namibian rally and circuit racing scenes, but the duo proved their mettle on South African soil this past weekend.

Competing in their Dakar-spec CR-6 vehicle, the pair dominated the field to finish first — both overall and in their class.

Viviers and Koorts faced off against approximately 30 competitors in a gruelling 250km non-stop sprint.

“Unlike in Namibia, where we take a rest and service our vehicles after a certain distance, once you start here, you drive until you finish the race,” he says.

The Wollies 200 off-road race is a South African club and regional event held in Wolmaransstad, North West province, attracting a wide field of off-road and motorcycle competitors.

Despite the challenging terrain, Koorts remained unfazed.

“The roads were tough, but what else do you expect from any off-road race?” he says.

This was Cema Racing’s maiden entry to the event, leaving the team uncertain of what to expect before the flag dropped.

However, their performance has set a high bar for future cross-border excursions.

The team will not have much time to rest on their laurels.

Koorts has confirmed they will return to South Africa on 14 February to defend their standing at Biesiesvlei, near Johannesburg.
