Namibian cyclists excel in Cape Town

Namibian cyclists excelled at the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, winning several podium places.

Alex Miller finished fifth overall in the mens race over 109km and third overall in the elite mens category. 

Ryan Gibbons of SA was the overall men’s winner as well as the 30-34 year category winner in a time of 2:33:06, beating Jaedon Terlouw in a sprint to the line while the u23 rider Ryno Schutte came third, one second behind. 

Callum Ormiston was fourth overall in 2:33:08, while Miller came fifth overall,  35 seconds behind the winner. 

Vera Looser finished fourth overall in the women’s race over 78km and second in the 30-34 year category after finishing in the leading sprint to the line. 

Lisa Bone of SA was first overall in 2:06:06, followed by Daria Pravilova of Russia, Kate Courtney of SA, Looser and Tiffany Keep of SA who all finished in the same time. 

In the men’s race, Martin Freyer came 48th overall and fifth in the 30-34 year category in 2:35:58, while Jaques Hanekom came 50th overall and 27th in the elite category in 2:35:59.

Christiaan van der Westhuizen came 63rd overall and sixth in the u19 category in 2:38:35, while Roger Suren came 64th overall and 18th in the u23 category in 2:38:47. 

Sean Lowe came 96th overall and 11th in the u19 category in 2:39:38, while 

Petrus Hanga came 102nd overall and 27th in the u23 category in 2:39:40. 

In the women’s race, Anri Greeff came 22nd overall and eighth in the 30-34 year category in 2:11:12, while Belinda van Rhyn came 43rd overall and third in the 40-44 year category in 2:16:48.

Delsia Janse van Vuuren came 35th overall and sixth in the u23 category in 2:11:14, while Rosemarie Thiel came 57th overall and seventh in the u19 category in 2:17:30. 

Monique du Plessis came 59th overall and 13th in the elite category in 2:17:31.

Competing over the 109km route, Marissa Mouton came 876th overall and fifth in the 40-44 year category in 3:07:29, while Maryke Mouton came 981st overall and fifth in the 35-39 year category in 3:09:08. 

Annamart Kruger also excelled, winning the women’s 45-49 year category and finishing 1 288th overall in a time of 3:15:03.
