Namibia’s women made history on Saturday when they beat Thailand 3-2 to qualify for the 5/6th playoff match on Sunday.

Regardless of the outcome it will be Namibia’s best ever position at the World Cup, while by guaranteeing a top six spot they have now secured two spots for Africa at the next Indoor World Cup.

In a tight match of few chances, Jiratchaya Todkaew gave Thailand the lead with a field goal at the end of the first quarter but Kiana Cormack immediately equalised from a short corner.

Jivanka Kruger restored Namibia’s lead with a field goal in the 17th minute, but Thailand equalised with a field goal by Tikhamporn Sakulpithak just before full time.

The match seemed to be heading for a penalty shootout but Namibia won a last gasp short corner and Kiana Cormack made no mistake, hitting the back of the net to seal a dramatic 3-2victory.
