Namibia will host an environmental conference from 10 to 16 December in Windhoek.
The conference brings 750 delegates from over 150 countries together to address critical issues related to biodiversity, ecosystems and their interconnectedness with human well-beings.
The delegates to the 11th Session of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services (IPBES) will comprise scientists, policymakers and global experts.
According to a recent statement issued by the spokesperson in the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Romeo Muyunda, Namibia’s selection as the host country of the event underscores its growing role as a leader in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
“Hosting the IPBES 11th Session is a historic opportunity for Namibia to showcase its leadership in sustainable practices and biodiversity conservation,” said Muyunda.
IPBES’s 11th Session will look into the assessment on interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health and the transformative change assessment.
The event will be preceded by IPBES Youth Conference, starting today until 9 December.
This brings 25 youth representatives together from all five United Nations regions in order to build capacity in terms of communicating the importance of nature, according to IPBES’s Technical Support Unit for Capacity Building – based in Norway.
IPBES is an independent intergovernmental body that assesses the state of the health of ecosystems, from the soil to the oceans, their biodiversity and services they provide.
