Namibia takes centre stage in fight against financial crimes

Namibia hosted the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) joint group meeting in Windhoek.

This meeting focused on updates from African countries on their progress in addressing deficiencies related to ‘grey listing’

The meeting was attended by delegations from 11 African nations, FATF representatives, and various international partners.

According to a press statement released by the Financial Intelligence Centre of Namibia, Namibian delegates from diverse agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Bank of Namibia, presented the country’s compulsory report and engaged with assessors to clarify related issues.

The joint group will evaluate Namibia’s progress before submitting an overall assessment to the FATF in February 2025.

Namibia’s decision to host this meeting shows its commitment to aligning its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing measures with international standards, reaffirming its role as a partner in combating such financial crimes globally.
