According to the 2023 Census, Windhoek is unsurprisingly the urban locality with the largest population, with 486.2 thousand individuals residing in Namibia’s capital.
Rundu came in as the second largest urban locality, with 118.6 thousand individuals, followed by Walvis Bay with 102.7 thousand individuals. Of the largest 15 urban localities, Okahandja posted the fastest growing urban population since 2011 (when the previous Census was released), doubling in size with a 12-year population increase of 100%.
Ondangwa and Rehoboth were the slowest growing in the top 15, increasing only by 33% and 41% over 12 years, respectively, and which were also among the top 10 slowest growing populations across Namibia’s 58 urban localities. Rehoboth, which was the 6th largest in 2011, is now the 9th largest, while Ondangwa and Keetmanshoop dropped to 13th and 15th from 9th and 11th, respectively.
