Namibia gears for national conference on ICT

GOVERNMENT will bring together all stakeholders in the information and telecommunications technology (ICT) sector next month for the country’s first national conference, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced.

This comes in the wake of a new legislation for ICT, which was supposed to have been introduced to Parliament and passed into law this month, but missed the deadline Cabinet set itself three months ago. Deputy Information Minister Raphael Dinyando told a media briefing at the end of last week that since the establishment of the Namibian ICT policy in 2002 little has been done to promote the use of ICT resulting in the country losing several places in the annual World Economic Forum competitiveness report.”This ICT conference will establish our current ICT status and find a way forward to accelerate economic development and prosperity for Namibia,” he said. The conference will take place on August 2 and 3.Delegates will discuss the e-law status in Namibia, the African Union and SADC, ICT infrastructure including broadcasting, voice and data services as well as internet services in Namibia.Deputy Information Minister Raphael Dinyando told a media briefing at the end of last week that since the establishment of the Namibian ICT policy in 2002 little has been done to promote the use of ICT resulting in the country losing several places in the annual World Economic Forum competitiveness report.”This ICT conference will establish our current ICT status and find a way forward to accelerate economic development and prosperity for Namibia,” he said. The conference will take place on August 2 and 3.Delegates will discuss the e-law status in Namibia, the African Union and SADC, ICT infrastructure including broadcasting, voice and data services as well as internet services in Namibia.
