Namibia-China visa-free travel limited to diplomatic, official passports

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security clarified that the recently approved mutual visa-free travel agreement between Namibia and China will apply only to holders of diplomatic and official/service passports.

On Wednesday, Cabinet announced it has authorised the ministry to enter into a mutual exemption from visa requirements between Namibia and China for holders of diplomatic, official/service passports.

“As already communicated to the public by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the ministry emphasises that the mutual visa exemption agreement between Namibia and China is strictly applicable only to holders of diplomatic and official/service passports. This exemption is bilateral, meaning it applies equally to both Namibia and China, and only extends to nationals holding these specific types of passports,” home affairs executive director Etienne Maritz said on Saturday.

Maritz said Namibia has previously entered into similar visa exemption agreements with several other nations, all of which follow the same principles established in the Namibia-China agreement.

“These prior arrangements, like the current one, cover only holders of diplomatic and official/service passports. The mutual visa exemption agreement between Namibia and China, will enter into force 30 days after the parties have notified themselves of the completion of all necessary legal requirements to implement the agreement. The public will be notified through the media on the implementation date,” Maritz said.
