Namibia’s men and Australia drew 5-5 in a thrilling match at the Indoor Hockey World Cup in Porec on Thursday night.
Fagan Hansen gave Namibia an early lead with a field goal but Joshua Gregory equalised for Australia and they went 3-1 ahead by halftime after a brace by Aiden Dooley.
David Britz reduced the deficit to 3-2 with a great deflected goal midway through the third quarter, but Australia went 5-3 ahead through a short corner goal by Jake Staines.
Namibia however made a great comeback in the final quarter with goals by the Britz brothers JP and David to draw level at 4-4, but Australia went 5-4 ahead when Stained scored his second goal.
Namibia once again struck back with JP Britz scoring his second short corner goal to give them a share of the spoils in a 5-5 thriller.
Namibia will now play Belgium in the quarterfinals on Friday evening, while the other quarter final matches will see Germany up against Poland, South Africa taking on Iran, and Austria taking on Australia.
