Namibia is represented at the United States-Africa business summit which was officially opened in Gaborone, Botswana, yesterday morning, by a high-level delegation led by vice president Nangolo Mbumba.

According to a statement from the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), the summit, which ends tomorrow, is being held under the theme ‘Enhancing Africa’s Value in Global Value Chains’.

It kicked off with a panel discussion by global leaders in different economic sectors.

The Namibian delegation is expected to highlight investment opportunities in the country’s energy and other priority sectors, including mining and agriculture.

Namibia’s energy sector is gaining recognition for its diversity and growth.

According to the NIPDB, recent significant exploration activities have resulted in discoveries of approximately 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent with the potential to place Namibia among the top oil- and gas-producing nations.

“Our renewable energy sector is similarly robust, leveraging world-class solar photovoltaic and wind power potential. Together with enabling legislation, Namibia currently has more than 19 independent power producers investing in 1,2GW of new generation capacity,” the investment board said.

“We are also pioneering large-scale green hydrogen production, which could significantly enhance our economy and affirm Namibia’s place in the global green energy landscape by producing at least 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2050,” the NIPDB said.

The board highlighted that concurrently, Namibia is developing emerging carbon markets, a step that signals commitment to transformative climate action and sustainable development.

These developments will also form part of the discussions at the ‘Invest in Namibia’ session, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the business summit today from 12h00 to 14h00.

Hosted by Mbumba and attended by top officials from the public and private sector, the session will highlight the latest developments and investment opportunities in Namibia’s dynamic energy sector, the NIPDB said.

Various speakers will amplify the government’s efforts to enhance the country’s investment landscape, the statement said.

The Namibian delegation also includes minister of agriculture, water and land reform Calle Schlettwein; minister of industrialisation and trade Lucia Iipumbu and NIPDB chief executive officer Nangula Uaandja.
