Names of deceased in Windhoek-Okahandja road accident released

The Otjozondjupa police on Saturday afternoon released the identities of two of the three people who died in an accident on the new Okahandja-Windhoek A1 Road on Friday.

The Namibian Police’s head of community affairs in the region, senior inspector Maureen Mbeha, in a media statement said the two men are Helmut Andreas (55) and Hans Dhamona Petrus (25).

“The third victim is a four-month-old baby boy who is not identified yet,” she said.

The trio died instantly Friday afternoon when the double cab vehicle they were travelling in overturned and rolled twice.

It is alleged that a burst tyre caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, said Mbeha.

She added that the vehicle had 10 occupants including the driver. Six people sustained serious injuries, and one was slightly injured. All injured passengers were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital on Friday.

Police investigations continue.
