Three suspects were arrested at Keetmanshoop on Tuesday in connection with the theft of diamonds from Namibia Desert Diamonds (Namdia) earlier this year.
Police deputy inspector general Elias Mutota confirmed the arrests but said a full statement would be provided to The Namibian at 12h00 today.
According to a source close to the investigation, the suspects were identified during ongoing police operations and are believed to be linked to the diamonds stolen from Namdia in January 2025.
“The three suspects were allegedly handling large sums of money and purchasing assets and commodities on a daily basis since January,” the source said.
The source added that search warrants were obtained, and their premises were raided on 5 May 2025. Several items acquired between late January and May were seized during the operation.
The Namdia robbery, which occurred in January, involved the theft of diamonds valued at approximately N$350 million from the state-owned diamond trading company’s premises in Windhoek. The high-profile heist shocked the nation and led to a nationwide manhunt.
The robbery also claimed the lives of Namdia executive Francis Eiseb and one of the suspects, Max Endjala.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
