Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) has paid tribute to its former head of security, Francis Eiseb, describing him as a fallen hero after he was killed during a N$350-million heist at the diamond company on 18 January.
Eiseb’s death has left an impact on company employees and the lives of all who knew him, Namdia’s safety and security manager, Paulinus Sheyapo, said. He was speaking at Eiseb’s memorial in Windhoek on Thursday evening.
Eiseb (57) was killed in the line of duty at the parastatal in Windhoek during the heist.
“Francis was a cornerstone, not just for the security and safety division, but for Namdia as a whole. His selflessness, unwavering commitment and genuine passion for his work radiated warmth, bringing joy and comfort to those fortunate enough to know him. Francis possessed a wisdom that went beyond work-related issues and influenced all aspects of life,” Sheyapo said.
He said Eiseb often shared insights into life, politics, religion and personal growth, inspiring those around him to reflect on their values and priorities.
“Francis was dependable, you could always count on him for anything. His consistency, hard work, integrity and professionalism were evident in every aspect of his role at Namdia. Arriving first and leaving last, he operated like a true captain leading an army.
“His presence provided a sense of comfort, similar to having a father both at home and at the workplace. Crossing paths with Francis would inevitably brighten your day regardless of your mood when you came to the office,” Sheyapo said.
Namdia staff are receiving counselling following the N$350-million gemstone heist at the company’s office.
Meanwhile, Max Endjala (44) the former Trustco Group Holdings executive who also died during the heist at Namdia, was laid to rest on Saturday at Oluteyi village in the Omusati region. Endjala funeral service was held at his grandparents’ house.
In a media statement released last week, the company’s chief executive, Alisa Amupolo, said Namdia remains committed to keeping the media updated on the progress and actions being taken following the heist.
The company released the update after a second postponement of a media briefing that was scheduled to take place last Wednesday.
“Due to ongoing investigations, it was deemed fit for the planned joint media conference to be postponed until an appropriate time. We will then be in a better position to provide you with a critical update on the progress of the police and internal investigation,” Amupolo stated.
She said the update would also include information about how much of the stolen goods has been recovered.
She said in the meantime, her company is working closely with Eiseb family to finalise his funeral arrangements.
She said Namdia’s staff continue to receive the necessary support and counselling following the incident.
“Our business is open and operations have not been affected.”
