Nabta urges members to hold back on fare hikes

THE Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta) has appealed to commuter operators not to increase their fares until the go-ahead is given by authorities.

Andreas Nuule, a member of the Nabta National Executive Committee, said three meetings for bus and taxi owners would be held at the weekend to discuss possible increases. The meetings will take place in Windhoek and at Ondangwa and Ongwediva on Sunday. In the capital, the meeting will be held at the J & P Group shopping complex in Katutura, starting at 13h00.The Ongwediva meeting will be held at the Ongwediva Community Hall, while at Ondangwa operators will meet at Oluno.Nuule said taxi and bus drivers representing their employers should present letters of approval from their bosses. It is likely that Nabta will ask for a taxi fare increase from N$5,00 to N$6,00.Bus owners, especially those that ferry people between Windhoek and the North, are likely to ask for a N$10 fare increase.
