THE motor industry in Namibia experienced a major shake-up with the official news of the M+Z Motors Group taking over former Associated Motor Holdings (AMH) as of this month.

The four brands now added to the group’s portfolio are KIA, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Renault.
Horacio ‘Rassie’ Rietz, the head of sales at M+Z Motors, says the takeover agreement stipulated that no staff member would be retrenched in the process as per the regulations of the Namibian Competition Commission (NCC).

To push figures, two more sales executives were appointed, he says – one at KIA and one at Hyundai.
To fit in with M+Z’s culture, the respective line managers will be provided with training and guidance, he says.
“As part of the conditions the group must provide the NCC with a report every six months, indicating that all the staff members are still in the employment of KHMR M+Z.” Rietz says.

To ensure a smooth takeover, various experts from the group’s various divisions worked around the clock to ensure clients were not affected by the process when they reopened their doors for business last week.

Ekko Eisenberg, the managing director of M+Z Motors, during the official opening ceremony on Friday, said it is the group’s mission to satisfy all Namibians’ needs to be able to buy a car if they so wish.

The group already has 17 different brands, ranging from sedans, SUVs, 4x4s, tractors and other agricultural implements under their logo.

But the end is not in sight yet, as the group is planning on bringing more affordable luxury vehicles to Namibia.
The opening event was attended by the group exco, directors, shareholders, bankers and special guests.
