My Dream Last Night

I sat and stared at the luminous light that crept through a hole in my tin roof.

This was my mother’s dream house, and before her my father’s. But this derelict house can’t be my dream not anymore at least. My time on this Earth is coming to an end and no, I am not dying but I mean, very literally, that my time on this Earth is coming to an end.

The brand new Ministry of Human Relocation has been advertising that they were giving away one million tickets to the International Relocation Project.

What’s that, you ask?

Well, you see, the year is 2030 and our poor little planet earth, has become overcrowded and as a directive of the UN many countries have opted to send their surplus population to the red planet, Mars.

Well, there is this titanic space ship that the UN finished building three years ago on its maiden voyage. Five hundred million people from all over the world made the exodus to Mars.

That was three years ago.

The ship, appropriately called Exodus, is scheduled to return in merely six months. I can’t wait to get on it and leave this hunk of rock we call Earth.

There is nothing here for me anymore.

I am 37 years old and in my life I have nothing to show for it except this old house. I had always thought that I’d take this house into something enviable but writing can only pay so many bills and the costs of renovations would be tremendously high and I don’t make that kind of money.

There is nothing here for me.

There was a girl once but she wised up to my crap eventually and left for good. The only person who ever saw the real me and loved me.

There is nothing here for me.

My family loves me but they know nothing about me. I can’t talk to them. I can’t have meaningful and uplifting conversations with them.

So as you can see there is no reason to stay on this crowded planet.

My mind is set. Mars will be my new dominion and I will rule over it!

The Terra forming of Mars is already in its final stages. Yes, there were some carbon sites; these were the areas that had only carbon dioxide without letting in any other gasses.

Scientist have been baffled for years as to why these areas exist. Some theories suggest that the magnetic field of Mars pulls specifically on the iron particles in carbon, causing the carbon dioxide to stay in one place. ‘But how do you explain the fact that any other gas can’t, even through artificial means, enter this area?’

Another famous theory, but less likely, is that the Martians have built a machine in this area that pulls the carbon and pushes away all the other gasses. One of the major flaws in this theory is that in the many years human beings have been investigating the surface of Mars there hasn’t been even the slightest of clues or hints that may suggest that there are or were ever at one point in the history of Mars, Martians. The second flaw is that no evidence of surges in energy around these areas exist, meaning that that there aren’t any machines in operation.

So sorry for boring you with the technical but when you are as excited as I am stuff like that is bound to happen. What will happen to this house, that was left to me by my mother, you ask.

Well, I guess I will hand it over to my brother. He has an eye for things like this and would most likely do something beautiful with it.

Wish I’d be here to see it. But I won’t. By the time construction starts I will be months into my year and a half long trek to Mars.
