MVA Fund to help horror accident victims’ families

THE Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) will help pay for the funerals of the nine people who died in a head-on collision near Oshakati on Friday.

Helena Shikongo of the MVAF office at Ongwediva told The Namibian that they would provide financial assistance to nine families. She said the family of the driver of one of the cars involved in the accident would not be assisted, as it has been alleged that he caused the accident.Two sedan cars, one travelling from Oshakati to Okahao and the other one coming from the opposite direction, crashed into each other at Olulongo village in Oshana Region, about 12 km west of Oshakati.Five people died on the spot while four died later in hospital.Five of the 14 people who were in the two vehicles are still in hospital.It is suspected that one of the vehicles was overloaded, Police Deputy Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo told The Namibian on Sunday.One of the vehicles had reportedly been overtaking another when the driver spotted the oncoming car.She said the family of the driver of one of the cars involved in the accident would not be assisted, as it has been alleged that he caused the accident.Two sedan cars, one travelling from Oshakati to Okahao and the other one coming from the opposite direction, crashed into each other at Olulongo village in Oshana Region, about 12 km west of Oshakati.Five people died on the spot while four died later in hospital.Five of the 14 people who were in the two vehicles are still in hospital.
