Mutorwa inaugurates NSC office complex

WINDHOEK – Minister of Sport John Mutorwa on Tuesday inaugurated the new office complex of the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC), which was purchased at a cost of N$4,1 million.

The offices are situated in Omuramba Road in Eros. Mutorwa said the decision to buy the building was taken within the framework of Section Three of the Namibia Sports Act, which deals with financial provisions, adding that the building was acquired with the resources of the commission. He added that if the commission carries out its functions professionally, individual sport codes will not just be happy but empowered to be the best in the world.Mutorwa urged the NSC to execute its functions efficiently, fairly and accountably.”You have a mandate prescribed by the law.Stick to the mandate and you will never go wrong,” he said.He advised the commissioners to prioritise the implementation of ‘part three’ of the Namibian Sport Act.According to him, sport does not enjoy priority in the National Budged because it competes with other needs. He therefore stressed the importance of the Sport Development Fund (SDF).”The Commission must maintain the fund by deriving income from other sources. It is our collective responsibility to build up the fund,” he said.He urged the commissioners and the Directorate of Sport to finalise the provisional National Sport Policy to conform with the country’s Sport Act.He said the policy must have incentives for the corporate world in order for the private sector to pump more into sport. The Minister also reminded the Commissioners and the representatives of the various sport codes and umbrella bodies of the important sport events lined up for 2008.The 2008 sporting calendar includes the AFCON final (Ghana), Olympic Games (Beijing) and the Zone Six Under-20 Youth Games (South Africa).NampaMutorwa said the decision to buy the building was taken within the framework of Section Three of the Namibia Sports Act, which deals with financial provisions, adding that the building was acquired with the resources of the commission. The Minister also reminded the Commissioners and the representatives of the various sport codes and umbrella bodies of the important sport events lined up for 2008.The 2008 sporting calendar includes the AFCON final (Ghana), Olympic Games (Beijing) and the Zone Six Under-20 Youth Games (South Africa).Nampa
