Must-Watch International Series on ShowMax

Much like Netflix, ShowMax has become the go-to platform for your favourite series and movies in abundance. With a cheap monthly fee to a great watching experience, ShowMax is DStv’s way of proving it can successfully dominate the digital sphere without being left behind by the cool kids. This April, ShowMax has a lot in store for its fans including brand new seasons of popular series eagerly waited upon for the past few months. Read on to find a glimpse of what’s in store on the small screen.

‘Game of Thrones’

Jon Snow, the Night’s Watch, Daenarys Targaryen, the Unsullied and the entire Westeros join forces this season to defeat the Night King and the White Walkers. But will they? There have been many questions left unanswered – will Arya Stark’s kill list see its completion? Will Jon Stark leave Daenarys Targaryen after he realises he’s related to her? Does Cersei Lannister still deserve to live another day and will Theon Greyjoy ever rescue his sister Yara? Then there’s the ultimate question: Who will be the last (wo)man standing to sit on the throne? So many theories. So little time. Until the season eight premiere, that is. The highly anticipated ‘Game of Thrones’ final season is scheduled for 14 April. Remember to keep up with the conversation with the hashtag #GameofThronesNam.

Web series are becoming popular lately and the American show ‘Future Man’ is one of them. Released online but attracting a flock of television watchers, the second season, which premiered in January, is making its way to ShowMax. Here’s the gist of it: Josh Futturman, a janitor who’s in love with the game ‘Biotic Wars’, completes it, but then his favourite characters magically appear from the future and recruit him to save the world. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Coupe, Derek Wilson, Awkwafina and other actors, the series, described as “shockingly gross and amazing”, is about to change the way you perceive the world. Kind of.

Everyone loves Idris Elba. And why not? His eyes are perfect. His British accent is magical. His skin colour has a glow like no other and his fashion sense is immaculate. Because of a deadly combination of charisma and flawless acting, it’s no surprise most of what he touches turns into gold. His sex appeal has stolen a large audience for the hit show ‘Luther’ and thanks to a new season, Elba reprises his role as the hot detective Luther who’s out for blood. That’s right. Season five is heading to ShowMax and we couldn’t be gladder! Darker, deadlier and definitely more entertaining, Luther has to investigate more murders and avoid a hitman which could be the most dangerous case he’ll ever have to take on.

Who doesn’t love a good scandal, especially political ones that could change the face of the world? ShowMax has got you covered. ‘A Very English Scandal’ is a short but sweet miniseries that looks at the Jeremy Thorpe scandal which took place decades ago. Throwing you back in time, actor Hugh Grant plays the elusive Jeremy Thorpe, a member of parliament who has to iron out issues with his ex-lover Norman Josiffe, a 21-year-old who has a history of being unstable. After Thorpe dismisses his lover, threats emerge and a career is at stake. If you’re someone who is heavily monitored and an extremely powerful leader, incidents such as these could lead to murderous intentions. The suspense starts now.
