Music Awards Not Up To Scratch

Music Awards Not Up To Scratch

FIRST let me say, I am a big fan of Namibian music and I’m very pleased when I see Namibian artists being rewarded for their work.

I also appreciate the fact that there are award ceremonies in Namibia for this purpose. But there were a number of things I was not satisfied with during this year’s NBC/ Sanlam Namibian Music Awards.Among these was the poor sound system. The quality was definitely not satisfactory for an event of this type. This is totally unacceptable for such a big event. Then, the person introducing the presenters – what’s up with the voice? It was distracting and he should try to speak normally next time. Also, I found it very strange that they started so late with showing the nominations, and even so, there were still some categories where they didn’t show the nominations.I think that was a big blunder. As I understand, these types of events are rehearsed. It didn’t look like anything was rehearsed to me.Except for the lady who was the main presenter, the others didn’t look like they really knew what to do.Another thing, wouldn’t it be better to tell the artists before the event how many people they are allowed to bring onto stage when accepting an award? It doesn’t send a good message when the presenter has to repeat it after each award. Also, some artists go a little over board with the number of people they do bring with them on stage. After the presenter announces that only two people may come up, why did some artists ignore this? Are they trying to be rebellious? Do they think that they actually impress the audience by ignoring such requests? It would be appreciated if they try to act a little bit more civilised. And then, the performers at the awards, this one I didn’t understand. What criteria did they use when choosing the performers for this event? Some of them were definitely not up to standard.I couldn’t believe it.You just cannot put poor acts at such an event.Neither should they use it to introduce unknown artists.I think that people expect to see class acts at an event such as the Music Awards. My biggest frustration is that artists entered for categories where they don’t belong. This, sadly, has happened before. And to top it off, these artists actually won.I think this is very unfair to the other artists in these categories. There’s no doubt that those who won are talented, but they should be entered in the categories in which they belong.I had high hopes for this year’s event, but sad to say, I was disappointed.I honestly believe that Namibian music doesn’t have to stand back when compared to any other country’s music. And if the organisers do their job, we would be able to say the same when it comes to Music Awards. It really could have been so much better.Dissatisfied Fan Via e-mailBut there were a number of things I was not satisfied with during this year’s NBC/ Sanlam Namibian Music Awards.Among these was the poor sound system. The quality was definitely not satisfactory for an event of this type. This is totally unacceptable for such a big event. Then, the person introducing the presenters – what’s up with the voice?
