Albert Uulenga, popularly known as Mushe, will return to the city stage when he performs at the Old School & Music Festival scheduled this weekend.
The one-time Namibian male artist of the year is expected to thrill the audience at the Soweto parking (between KFC and Penny’s Den at Katutura) from Friday until Sunday.
Born at Lubango, Angola, the kwaito and Afro-pop star used to dominate the local showbiz scene as part of the now-disbanded popular duo Exit and Mushe.
“The Old School & Music Festival has become a very exciting event on the local entertainment scene. Everything happening there is absolutely old school.
“I’m also expected to perform my old hits, and I’ve prepared an exciting repertoire for my fans. We’re going to turn back the clock and go seriously down memory lane.”
The festival combines nostalgic vibes with live entertainment, food stalls, fashion, cocktails, hubbly bubbly stations, and community fun, says event organiser Usko.
“Lucky I’m sitting with a large catalogue of hits, old and new, and I’m suited perfectly for the requirements of the festival. We’re going to have a good time.
“Some of the hits I’m planning to perform on the night elevated my status as one of the biggest entertainers in the business. I’m looking at songs like ‘Onkalamwenyo’, ‘Mumwe Tati Kalako’ and ‘Aye Mani’,” Mushe says.
Apart from music, the artist runs local businesses in Windhoek and is involved in farming.
He frequently engages in youth empowerment by visiting local schools.
Patrons are encouraged to embrace the old-school theme through music-inspired outfits and retro fashion looks.
The festivities also create opportunities for small and medium enterprises, food vendors, creatives, and local entrepreneurs through various exhibition stalls and activations throughout the weekend.
