Musasa goal gives Stars late victory

African Stars beat Citizens in dramatic fashion on Sunday after a last minute goal by their Zimbabwean winger Atlast Musasa.

Citizens took the lead after 30 minutes when goalie Immanuel Immanuel kicked a long, high ball into Stars’ box and Citizens midfielder Steward Goagoaseb nipped in between Stars’ keeper Athiel Mbaha and defender Pat Uanivi to stab the ball into an empty net.

Stars drew level 13 minutes after the break when Joslin Kamatuka turned on the speed to beat Citizens’ defence and latch onto a through-ball before beating Immanuel from close range.

Citizens had more chances with a Johannes Seibeb shot going wide, while Mbaha did well to tip a scorching free-kick by Dantago Uirab over the bar.

Seibeb wasted another chance when he volleyed wide from a cross by James Nailonga, and Citizens were made to pay for their wastefulness when Musasa headed in from a free-kick by Edwin Korukuve in the last minute of the match.

The result saw Stars maintaining their perfect start to the season after they beat Mighty Gunners 2-1 on Saturday.

Tigers and United Stars also maintained perfect starts after recording their second victories on Sunday. Tigers beat Mighty Gunners 1-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, while Stars beat Young Chiefs 1-0 in Rundu.

In Walvis Bay, Black Africa held Blue Waters to a 1-all draw, while Eleven Arrows beat Flamingoes 2-1.

In other matches on Sunday, Rundu Chiefs beat Julinho 1-0, Civics and Tura Magic drew 1-1 and Unam beat Orlando Pirates 3-2.
