HE makes grown women sweat, young ladies drool and teen girls scream. The 2013 ‘Idols’ South Africa season nine winner brought his unique presence to the ‘Idols’ stage, wowing the audience and the judges with each and every one of his performances.
He quickly became the name on every ‘Idols’ fan’s lips, delilvering killer performances with his suave stage presence and velvet voice. He now brings all of that to the Land of the Brave, where he is scheduled to perform on 7 March, at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) in Namibia.
Originally from Witbank, Mpumalanga in South Africa, Musa Sukwene moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in music, a move he describes as the best decision he could have made.
He started off his career by performing at corporate events as well as eateries, Musa initially entered ‘Idols’ to get his name out in the public and to grow his career as a musician.
“I entered ‘Idols’ for the experience. All I’ve known is gigging and I wanted to know how the other half lives,” Musa said.
Having loved music from an early age, he went on to study music while working for his father in the construction business.
‘Idols’ South Africa did not only win him the grand prize and title, it also opened various doors for Musa. Since winning, he’s had the opportunity to meet and work with great names in the music industry as well as grow a continental fan base which continues to grow with every performance.
“I have been performing non-stop and have had the fantastic opportunity to meet some awesome fans along the way,” the singer says.
Musa said that the competition has not only affected his career but also his personal life and continues to have an impact on all areas of his life. He said the competition was an experience that changed his life for the better, having created a platform for him to follow his passion – music.
“People now recognise me wherever I go,” he says adding that he is still adapting to the fame that came with being part of and winning the competition.
Determined to strike the iron while it is still hot, Musa has plans to compose his own music, hoping to work with artists like HHP, The Muffinz as well as The Soils. He has also set goals to pursue a career in radio and the vocalist is working on releasing his debut album.
Although the talent show winner attracted fans from all over, male and female from all ages, it became evident with every episode that the ladies fell in love with him with every show. His soulful and romantic choice of songs and charisma on stage did not go unnoticed, especially by the female species.
Performances like that of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’ left judge Unathi, hot under the collar and audiences roaring and screaming for more.
“It is hard to believe that I have that effect on women. I feel very blessed and humbled,” Musa said.
Still getting used to being in the limelight, Musa’s said that he never thought he would become so big, but he is very grateful for all the support he has been receiving.
Very excited and looking forward to visiting Namibia, Musa promised to deliver a “night of stylish soulful sounds.”
“I am very excited to visit your country and hope to return the love received from the fans,” Musa said.
Tickets are available at all Computicket outlets for N$160. No tickets will be sold at the door, which open at 19h00.
